Bristol and West 6 – 4 Cardiff UWIC

Watching the 1s play over the last few weeks has certainly been entertaining and good value with goals galore!  The previous weekend’s double header saw the team score ten and last time out scored another 6.

With AD  back after concussion the team fielding arguably one of its strongest squads this season now that players have returned from injury and abroad, much was expected playing at home against a top 4 side.

However the trend of early goals continued but this time Cardiff taking the lead only to be countered by Bristol and West within minutes.  Bristol playing the more attacking hockey were outdone by two counter attacks to leave the side 3- 1 down at half time. Worse was to come when Cardiff converted a PC to make it  4-1 early in the 2nd half  but that only triggered the team into action after a half time grilling.

A slight change in formation with Shearsy moving out to the left and deeper , together with Charles (Pebbles)  exchanging positions with Gav (the Rock) in midfield,  saw Bristol and West regain authority. There was  more steel about the core of the team, the intensity and flowing passes were back in the team,s game and quickly they pulled a goal back.  Now the home side were completely dominate and Cardiff were pinned back in their own half,  as B & W  stepped up the pace every player seemed to want the ball and there was a great hunger and attitude and a determination for more goals, and they came. JC cashing in with yet another hat trick and he could of  had more! Gardner back on after watching his side regain the lead picked up the ball on half way and with a well worked one-two with JC finished with a sliding first time effort that put the home side 2 goals clear and 6 – 4 up with minutes to go.
