Mendip get their revenge on the 3s

When things go wrong there comes a time when a captain needs to man up, face his critics, raise a hand and point the blame at someone else. And so it proved against Mendip. It wasn’t me, well not just me.

We started the season on a poor run, allowing ourselves to drift in games, let in a couple and battle, ultimately in vain, to chase the game. It was against Mendip we turned a corner; taking a mere 11 we defeated the then league leaders with a display of measured brilliance and our season started properly.

We’ve let in a mere 6 goals in the second half of the season. As such our expectations are now high. It is a measure of our recent form that we were so disappointed after a game where we had as many chances as them and battled throughout and against a team that has been above us all season.

We started poorly letting them score after just a couple of minutes. From then on it was all quite even. Despite looking like we were playing at half pace sometimes we didn’t give them much opportunity apart from that one slip.

It felt that the chance would come and so it did. Joel got the ball, found space in the D and it would not have been unjust had he buried it. Both keepers had had a good day and the Mendip number one was up to it and we were goal-less.

Next week it’s the 2s and they took points off us last time so it’s time for revenge…
