Many at Bristol & West have been honing their skills over several decades, which is why we have such an active masters section. Happily, this also reflects the growth of masters hockey countrywide.
We have representation at men’s over 40 and over 50 age groups and each year enter the HA Cup competition. In 2019, our over 50s went all the way to the final at the home of hockey at the Lee valley stadium in London (where we were unfortunately beaten by the narrowest margins!).
Best of all, masters hockey is incredibly friendly and social. How many of those now playing masters’ would have realised that after picking up a hockey stick for the first time, they would still be having so much fun so many years later? That is not to forget those players who have also learnt to play hockey later in life!
Several of our masters players are also involved at county, regional and national masters levels.
"Having played hockey for over 40 years for the same club, my love of the game has never wavered, to still be playing and still loving every game, win or lose is part of my life and the whole club at Bristol & West.
Great game, great life long team mates and the banter that goes with that combination . Having got to the tier 3 final in 2018/19 and lost; it has given us all a taste of the journey, what’s required from us all and the possibility of going one step further in 2019/20.
As a club we would love new players to get in touch and I would love to see some more over 50’s faces getting involved this season"
