B&WJ 2s Finding Their Form

20th November 2021

Bristol & West Jaspers 2 [7-0] Wick 2

Report by Becca Whone

The Bristol and West Jaspers 2nd team had an exciting game against Wick 2nd team, in the end coming out on top with a well-deserved 7-0 win and playing some of the best hockey of the season so far to make it three victories in a row.

The game started off fairly even with both teams having possession of the ball and good play at either end of the pitch, with defensive player of the match Char staying strong and successfully directing the presses high up the pitch to secure control of the ball.

Then halfway through the first half the game picked up in BAWJ favour, with Nat making a great run down right wing and crossing it into Becca stood on the post managing to push the ball in the goal although being taken out by the goalie in the process. After that the game went from strength to strength with Nat then assisting another goal passing it into Kirsty who smashed the ball in on the reverse to make the score 2-0.

Then the whistle blew for half time and although winning by 2, everyone knew it was still a very close game and anything could happen so everyone kept their head in gear to smash the rest of the match. After the motivating talk from Vice Captain Char and the energising orange slices everyone was ready to put in another fight.

And they did just that!

From there the performance escalated quickly with strong fights from the defence stopping the ball hardly even reach the top quarter, great pivots and long balls from the midfielders to get the ball up the pitch and fast paced runs from the forwards to get into the D to secure the win. The team only went up from there, working together as a strong unit.

The goals then came thick and fast with Becca scoring the first goal in the second half during a short corner with a great ball from Karen allowing Becca to flick the ball over the diving goalkeeper. A third goal came soon after from Phoebe scoring an amazing penalty flick staying strong under the pressure. Then Karen getting another assist with Nat scoring her well deserved goal hitting the ball in the air straight into the goal. The keeper had no chance. Bernie stepped up from defence in the short corner to score a 6th goal with an assist from Char before Char got her moment with the final (7th!) goal, with a 3rd assist from Karen.

Also massive shout out to Ella for stepping up in goal showing great bravery with some awesome saves, the clean sheet score clearly reflecting her efforts.
