Bristol Bite Back against Bridgend

Following their disappointing result in Cardiff last weekend Bristol & West A’s bounced back to record their seventh win of the season and get their promotion hopes back on track.

Dan Lusmore put his p-flick miss from last weekend behind him to bag a hattrick of goals and assists on his way to scooping his well-deserved Man of the Match award.

After a shaky opening few minutes where Bristol appeared to have not quite put the ghost of last weekend to bed, Luz opened his account for the game with a drag flick from a short that he had won moments earlier.

Lusmore was involved in the second as he dribbled from the top of the D beating a Bridgend defender before squaring to Josh Tester to slot home to put Bristol two to the good.

The third goal of the game came somewhat fortuitously as a Lusmore strike came back off the bar before Phil, ‘the silent assassin,’ bludgeoned the ball at the Bridgend keeper before Tester delicately lifted it over for his second of the game.

Bristol & West continued to be lethal at the set piece as Tester took responsibility at the top of the D and fired Bristol 4 goals to the good at half time.

After the break and some well-earned half-time oranges, Bristol refused to take the foot off the gas, firing a quick double passed the Bridgend defence courtesy of Tom Varney and yet another Lusmore short corner.

The defender’s union fantasy clean sheet bonus went awry following a well taken strike at short corner that gave Bridgend a glimmer of hope.

Then, Bridgend cut the deficit again, making it 6-2, slipping the ball into the goal with the Bristol & West defence caught out not playing to the whistle.

With Bridgend beginning to believe, Bristol & West A’s dashed all hope of a comeback by once again being accurate at a short corner. Opting against going straight for goal Bristol & West produced a slick routine that saw the Bridgend defence tied in knots and Varney once again wheeling away in celebration.

Bristol & West went on to finish off the route with another goal by Tom Varney that was tickled through the keeper’s legs before Lusmore completed his hattrick with a slammed reverse strike.

The 9-2 win has put Bristol & West A’s within three points of league leaders Stroud who have a far inferior goal difference as the season approaches the midway point.
