Gameweek Roundup ๐Ÿ† 11th March

Women's 1st Team West Women's Division 2 West Champions

Whether it's chasing 1st position or holding onto it, there is an immense amount of pressure that comes with sitting at the top of the league. Even more so after a long season as we near the business end of proceedings. But this is the kind of pressure that out first teams have shown that they thrive upon.

Going into this weekend with only 2 games remaining, our women's 1st team were sitting top with only Firebrands able to catch them. After a 7-0 demolition last week, you could be forgiven for thinking that our ladies would bring it home at a canter, but faced a resilient Leominster side on Saturday morning, who were not prepared to roll over. Nearing an hour into the game, the game was still scoreless. Despite sustained pressure, Leominster held firm. Step-up Meg Long, who made the most of another scrappy short corner to tuck home one of the goals of the season! A late 2nd from Becca Whone settled the nerves in the match. Post-game was spent frantically refreshing the results page to see the result from the midday game across the city in Failand ...... a 1-3 victory to Cirencester secured a league win for our Women's 1s CHAMPIONS! Well done ladies ๐Ÿ†.

Our Men's 1st team knew that this was a massive game on Saturday despite playing bottom of the league. Level on points with Bristol Uni, our men sat second, separated only by goal difference. Travelling to Cheltenham, with a strong squad packed with attacking talent, our lads tucked away 7 goals to add to the tally. With goal-difference the crucial metric, a shout-out also should also go to the defence as they secured another clean sheet. This combined with a slim victory for Bristol Uni in the afternoon, saw our 1s leap-frog to poll position. Next week's showdown with the students at home next Saturday increasingly has the appearance of a winner-takes-all contest. Get yourselves down to Mangotsfield for 12pm to cheer them on!

An unfortunate slip up meant we conceded early on in the game and struggled to bounce back.

Some good play all around overall with support from 2 of our younger players with their first call up, so thanks to Sam and Barnaby!

We did manage to claw one back through Edd W with 10 mins to go, with a lovely volley but we were unable to consolidate with a second.

Bristol Firebrands 6 [6-2] Bristol & West 6 (Dev)

Mens 6s lost 2-6 vs Firebrands. Decent first half performance and we were in the game at half time. Brands grew in confidence in the second half and proved too much in the end. Glad to get out of the rain. On to next week.

Highlight: Don getting back on the scoresheet with both goals.
