The 1st team showed up to Marlborough on a high having moved up to 2nd in the league the previous week, and were keen to avoid any banana skin moments against a tricky Marlborough side, who beat our promotion rivals Leominster the weekend before.
The game started well, with H showing good composure in the D to set up his elder brother for an easy, early tap in. Tom Bryant doubled the lead shortly later with a well placed short corner into the right hand side of the net. The team defended well for the rest of the first half, and just before the break Andy “Bruce” McKay tucked in a third on the back post following some quality, quick counter attacking hockey.
The second half was much the same as the first, with some excellent periods of play. Charlie Williams provided a wonderful reverse stick cross, neatly tucked in by Christian Elvidge at the back post. Charlie then turned goal scorer, slamming home a sublime 5th on his reverse. A lapse in concentration at the back led to a sloppy goal conceded by B&W, before “Bruce” turned “bald-Hulk” and decided to argue with the umpire, opposition, and embarrassingly some of his compatriots, for which he has since apologised and received his deserved DoD. Phil Brown elevated the mood of the team and made it six with another back post special, marking a fantastic win for the orange and black army.
MoM - Charlie Williams
DoD - Andy "Bruce" McKay
Goals - Tom Bryant (2), Bruce McKay, Charlie Williams, Christian Elvidge, Phil Brown
Cards - shockingly none!
