Hot on the heels of our recent under 12s tournament, Sunday 21st November marked another milestone for Bristol and West Hockey Club as our first ever Under 10s team took to the pitch at the Avon Junior Hockey Festival. On a cold November morning, our brave boys and girls steeled themselves against the chill to put on a fantastic display, representing our club with pride.
Our team was made up of seven 8yr old and six 9yr olds who all contributed to the success of the day, despite some only joining the club and picking up a stick for the first time this year. A special mention as always should go to our Goalkeeper, who played exceptionally between the sticks, keeping out numerous powerful strikes.
It was a fantastic learning experience for our youngsters, playing on a half pitch for the first time and learning the intricacies of short corners 10 minutes before the start of the festival. Our mixed squad played four 7-a-side matches against South Glos, North Somerset and Chippenham A and B. All games were very close with the true ethos of sportsmanship and teamwork on display throughout.
The Bristol & West club spirit was also apparent from the off, as the players on the side-lines joined in the chorus of supporters to cheer on their team-mates. The future of Bristol & West Hockey Club is certainly bright with the talent on display but most importantly, everyone involved fully enjoyed the experience.
As always, a big thank you must go to all the coaches, parents, grandparents, guardians for all of your support. We look forward to many more opportunities to see our youngsters play in the future.
