Winning run ends, but still leading the way

After 5 wins from 5, and only losing on flicks last Sunday to a team 2 leagues above, the 1st team were looking to continue their fine form.

City of Bath were a team who have just come down from the Championship and had a point to prove. On a miserable day in Bath, where the pre-game team talk was done by conference call in the car park, rather than stand out in the rain, it was the home team that started quicker.

CoB put the pressure on early and won a short corner that both keeper and post-man were helpless to stop, as it clipped the post on its way in. But there was an immediate response with an equaliser from Christian Elvidge on his return to the 1st team after resembling a human yo-yo in teams over the last couple of weeks.

Again, CoB came back at us to take it to 2-1, only for Harry "3-sprint per game" Bryant using one of his burst of pace to collect a ball across the top of the D, and reverse it to the bottom corner. 2-2.

Shortly after Jake Seager dribbled into the attacking D and laid the ball off to Dan Ott, who slotted the teams 3rd passed the keeper (who had a stormer - pun intended!) to let the 1s take the lead for the first time at 3-2, but with more short corners it was CoB's turn to respond and with not long to go the game was balanced at 3-3.

Sadly, with the monsoon taking its toll, Jimmer Ledge pulling up injured and consecutive decisions not going our way (maybe the reasons for the decisions from Bath's umpire is in the post - but not holding my breath) the decisive goal went to CoB, who finished 4-3 winners.

All in all it was a fantastic battle, against both the talented CoB team, the elements and maybe a decision or two. Although the winning run has ended, the team can be proud of the effort that went into that game and roll on to next week.

Goals: Christian "yo-yo" Elvidge, Harry "3-sprint" Bryant, Dan "hacker" Ott

MoM: Mouse (Ben Darlow-Jones) who ran the midfield.

DoD: a tie - Ed Ledger and Dan Ott shared it... though next week a pint off may break the tie!
