Gameweek Roundup - 11th Feb

Updated: Feb 14, 2023

What a week for Bristol & West Hockey Club! Another double-header for our men's 1st team, made it 10 games across the weekend, with a resounding 80% win record. Two wins for our men's 1s put them back at the top of league as the fight for West Men's Division 1 North intensifies. Our women's 1st travelled to Gloucester, looking to hold top-spot and continue their unbeaten run. A feisty game ended in a narrow 3-2 victory for our 1s, who took advantage of other results to extend their position at the top of the league with 5 to play.

Elsewhere, our men's 3s and 4s shook off the disappointment of last week's games, to record important victories which pulled them up from the bottom of their respective leagues. The 6s once again took advantage of the mix of youth and experience to record another victory for the development side. Our women's 2s and 3s continue to quietly pick up wins to stay 3rd in their leagues, hot on the heels of the promotion placed sides.

Match Summary

Men's 1st Team

Bristol & West [5-2] Old Bristolians 1

Bristol & West [4-1] Leominster

On Saturday the men’s 1s won 5-2 against OB’s 💪 goals from Tugs (2), H (2) and Fish (1)!

MoM to Disco for the second week running and

DoD to Andy ‘squarial’ McKay! 🤦‍♂️😂

The team followed it up with an always dangerous Sunday game. Shaking off the Saturday hangovers (metaphorical or otherwise!), West put Leominster to the sword with a 4-1 victory. Unbeaten run intact, re-claiming top spot, all-in-all a good weekend for the lads.

Goals: Chipper hat-trick (3), Ledgy (1)

Women's 1st Team

Gloucester City 3 [2-3] Bristol & West Jaspers 1

L1 had a feisty 3-2 win against a physical Gloucester team away with 2 injured subs. The team took control early with 2 short corner goals, before Gloucester found a second gear to pull it back to 2-2 in the second half. But late in the game, the team continued to take advantage of a fantastic short corner conversion rate: a slip left to Claudia who drove the ball in at the back post for the winner.🎉🧡
