Positive progress for BWJ 2s in opening fixtures

Bristol and West Jaspers 2s started their season with a home game against Keynsham. Against a clearly seasoned opponent, we braved torrential downpours to fend off the early Keynsham onslaught. Two acts of individual skill from the Keynsham strikers eventually breached an otherwise steadfast defence as we came in at the break 2-0 down. To misquote the sporting cliché, the second half was a game of two quarters! With 35 minutes experience of playing together under our belts, Izzy was brave enough to step forward to score a much-needed penalty flick (earning the coveted title of Player of the Match in the process!) and Kate got her name on the score sheet with a fantastic drive from the halfway line. At this point, BJW 2s looked to have seized the momentum despite trailing 4-2.The entire team fought on valiantly throughout the second half but with no substitutes (compared with Keynsham’s three), our legs weren’t what they were at the start of the game and our opponents pounced with a further 3 late goals. Neither the score, nor the weather dampened our spirits as everyone had given it their all and enjoyed playing together as a team for the first time!

Our second game against Dursley was much more evenly matched, with the teams scoring 2 goals apiece by half time. Kate scored her second goal in as many games and Chloe got in on the action too. It was clear to see the improvement from last week with some great movement off the ball and one-twos up the pitch. We held them off for most of the second half and then their centre forward broke through and scored in the last few minutes. With improving score lines game on game, we’re confident that next week we can get some points on the board!
