Bristol & West 2 [1-3] UWE
Report by Andy McKay
It was the turn of UWE to visit the new home of hockey for Bristol and West. The 2s were unusually subdued prior to push back, and we struggled to get a foothold in the game as the students from Bristol’s second best university and their vocal fan base applied the pressure.
The team struggled to find a way out from the back, and errant passes contributed to a frustrating start. Before we knew it, we were 2-0 down, and the whistle for half-time had blown.
We came out in the second half with renewed vigour and finally played some decent hockey, spending large parts of the second half attacking and dominating in a way that we could only dream of during the stale first half.
Any hopes of a comeback were quashed by a spectacular third for UWE, roofed by our very own Arthur past a helpless Dunc. We did pick up a consolation goal from a short corner, Alex Law deflecting in at the back post, but overall it was a disappointing day at the office.
