Our Masters sides have enjoyed some notable successes in recent years at HA Cup and Tournament hockey, and so this year the club has elected to gather some of its finest vintage in to a single side and unleash it on a regular competitive winter league slot. Thus with a ‘seasoned’ core squad, supported by a sprinkling of younger players, we launch this seasons ‘Vets E’ team.
Having played hockey for 40 years, over 30 with this club, I am delighted that we now have the opportunity to develop an experienced, and capable side who can continue to enjoy the game at a competitive level on a regular basis. With a squad that can field northwards of half a millennium of combined playing experience (!) we aim to surprise some of our opponents in this inaugural season, and are targeting progression from this modest start point. We also hope that, in playing regular competitive hockey together, we can provide a strong foundation for the club’s continued success in masters hockey competitions throughout the season.
The ethos of the squad is rooted in a longstanding love of the game, a supportive team spirit and commitment to the social side of team sport; we aim to compete hard, take pride in our performance and above all enjoy the game…..and the post-match banter! Perhaps best summed up in the team’s adopted motto for the season: “Win or lose: pride and a pint!”"
